FAQ

What is FarmGate Auctions?

FarmGate Auctions is an Australian-owned livestock auction platform, available on desktop, tablet and mobile (Apple & Android).

Who can sell on the FarmGate Auctions platform?

Both producers (vendors) and livestock agents can assess, list and sell livestock online. For producers wishing to assess and list, the livestock MUST be vendor bred.

What can I buy and sell on FarmGate Auctions?

Cattle, sheep and goats including store stock, breeding stock, fat stock and stud stock.

How can I buy and sell on FarmGate Auctions?

Once logged into FarmGate Auctions you will see a button to upgrade your account. You can request to buy only or buy & sell. We’ll need a few more details from you before switching on your permission to buy. To sell you’ll need to complete our online training material, which includes our online accredited assessors training and online multiple question test.

I’ve registered and logged in so why can’t I submit my Lot for sale or bid in a live auction?

When you register you have a guest account. In order to list and participate in a live auction you need to request buy or sell permission. You can do this by clicking on My Admin > Upgrade Account > Register to Buy / Register to Buy & Sell.

Do I have to wait for the whole auction to finish to buy a Lot?

In our standard weekly auctions, Lots sell independently of each other. The quickest time you can buy a Lot is 40 minutes. Other Lots could take longer depending on how much bidding activity they have on them. For those wanting private sales, we also offer helmsman auctions where Lots countdown at the same time, sequential auctions where Lots countdown individually and interfaced sales where the timer mirror’s the physical auction.

Do I need a registered PIC number to buy and sell on the platform?

Yes. If you want to buy and sell you will need to provide us with your current valid PIC number.

What are the advantages of buying and selling livestock online through FarmGate Auctions?

Choice. FarmGate is putting the choice back in your hands. Agents can do the assessing themselves or save time by asking producers to conduct their own assessments. This is provided when they have completed and passed the online training and they are assessing their own, vendor bred livestock.

Producers now have the choice to nominate an agent or assess, list and sell at a time that is convenient to them without involving an agent. It’s your choice how you sell your livestock.

Another big advantage is the quickest you can buy a Lot in our live auction is 40 minutes. As long as there is no more bidding on the Lot it will time out and sell, meaning you don’t have to wait for the whole auction to finish before you walk away.

What is vendor assessed?

Producers are now eligible to become an accredited assessor, once they have completed and passed the online training. Producers can conduct their own assessments, list and sell at a time that is convenient to them. Vendors will only be able to list and sell livestock that are vendor bred.

What are the benefits for me as a vendor?

  • Producers are now eligible to become an accredited assessor, once they have completed and passed the online training.
  • Producers can conduct their own assessments, list and sell at a time that is convenient to them.
  • FarmGate allows producers to control the marketing of their brand and reduce selling costs.

What vendors will be allowed to self assess?

Self assessment permission will only be given to vendors who have submitted all required details and passed our online accredited assessors training. They will be able to request to self assess cattle, sheep or goats that are vendor bred.

How do I become eligible to self assess?

The first step is registering for an account. Once you log in you will be prompted to request to BUY & SELL. We’ll need a few more details from you.

Can livestock agents still list?

Absolutely. If you are not yet accredited and/or don’t feel confident you are more than welcome to engage a livestock agent to complete the assessment.

What are the benefits for me as a livestock agent?

  • Agents can save time by asking producers to conduct their own assessments
  • Agents can receive a rebate for purchasing livestock on FarmGate Auctions (enquire for rates)

What are your standard listing fees and charges?

$10/head cattle

$1/head sheep

$1/head goats

Which mobile devices can I use to access FarmGate Auctions?

The free FarmGate Auctions mobile app is available for use on both iOS and Android devices. Click here to view in the Apple App store & click here to view in the Google Play store.
